MONTOLIEU : 10 minutes away from Fontiers-Cabardès, you will enjoy strolling through the lanes of one the rare “book villages” in France. Rummage through the old publications in one of the many bookshops. You can also learn all about the traditional crafts linked with book-writing: calligraphy, binding, etc. You can also see the local glass-blower at the “Manufacture Royale”.
THE PAPER MILL IN BROUSSES : 5 minutes away from Fontiers-Cabardès, in enchanting surroundings, through which flows the river Dure, the paper mill will take you back many years to the origins of paper making. Follow all the stages of fabrication and go home with your own self-made paper sheet.
THE LIMOUSIS CAVE : 30 minutes away from Fontiers-Cabardès. A voyage to the centre of the Earth in the largest cave of the cathare land. It includes sights of a unique aragonite formation, measuring 4 meters high and 10 meters wide, in a large hollow underground setting where light and music beautifully set the works of time.
10 minutes away from there, another underground discovery at the giant “Gouffre de Cabrespine”.
LA PRISE D’ALZEAU : Pleasant walk along the stream Alzeau, among magnificent beech trees or mountain bike ride along the “rigole”, thought through and built by Pierre-Paul Riquet to drive the water from the montagne Noire down to the Canal du Midi, at Naurouze en Lauragais. It is a refreshing walk in the summer heat, a perfect setting for collecting cepes in the Autumn and a fairy tale scenery under the winter snow.
...AND FONTIERS : charming village of 350 inhabitants perched at 620m of altitude. It is on the Bosquet, shaded central village place long ago created by Le Notre, that take place Sunday morning farmers markets, car-boot-sales at the end of July and the 4-day.
